The Interfaith Coalition for Housing - Sturgeon Bay was born from a simple conviction: every person in our community deserves a safe, stable place to call home.
Our Story
ICH-SB began when churches in Sturgeon Bay started hearing the same stories within their own congregations — families quietly struggling with housing instability, with nowhere to turn. Door County lacks the transitional housing resources available in larger nearby communities like Green Bay, and the gap was real: during the 2025-26 academic year, approximately 30 students in Door County schools met the federal definition of homelessness.
Rather than wait for someone else to act, these congregations came together. They partnered with Door County Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity, drew on the model of a similar organization in Green Bay, and formed a coalition built on shared values: compassion, dignity, accountability, and community.
In 2025, that coalition broke ground — transforming a former Sturgeon Bay medical clinic into transitional housing for families in crisis. The first family is expected to move in the fall of 2026. This is what it looks like when faith communities refuse to look away.
How the Program Works
Transitional housing is more than a roof. It's a structured path toward independence.
Safe Housing
Families in crisis move into a fully renovated, furnished transitional home in Sturgeon Bay — a stable base from which to rebuild.
Case Management
Meetings with a case manager help residents set goals, navigate resources, and stay on track toward long-term housing.
Financial Coaching
Budgeting assistance, financial counseling, and savings planning prepare families for independent living.
Transition Planning
Employment support, housing search assistance, and goal-setting help families move into permanent housing with confidence.
